NGC2024 Flame Nebula (2)
DETAILS: Optical setup: LX200 10"/Hutech LPS filter/6.3 focal reducer/AO-7 (adaptive optics)/CFW-8 filter wheel/ST-10XME camera. This is an RGB (color) image version of an earlier hydrogen alpha filter image. The RGB was acquired at 20:20:20 minutes. Aligned and debloomed in Maxim DL, levels and curves in PS. Intended was an HaRGB image, but camera rotation between imaging sessions caused the Ha to not line up properly with the RGB.
COMMENTARY: The Flame Nebula, located in the Constellation Orion, is an emission nebula energized by Alnitak (Zeta Orionis) and other nearby massive hot stars near the neighboring Horsehead Nebula just to the right of Alnitak. Alnitak shows a large diffraction pattern and lights up the surrounding gases. A beautiful contrast in colors.
