Distance: 32 million light-years
M74 (Messier Object) is a distant spiral galaxy 32 million light-years away in the Constellation Pisces. It measures about 97,000 light-years across, and contains an estimated 40 billion stars. Difficult to see in small to medium telescopes, the face-on M74 comes to life in long exposure astronomical images, showing many star-forming nebulae, and many millions of hot stars forming bluish knots lighting up its far-flung spiral arms.
